Cozumel, Quintana Roo — The Fundación de Parques y Museos de Cozumel (FPMC) has opened a free exhibition titled “El Origen del Trazo. Rostros, emoción y movimiento en una sola línea” featuring works by visual artist Emilio Chalita Aceves at the Museo de la Isla. The show aims to bring contemporary art to local residents and international visitors alike.

The exhibition showcases a new artistic direction for Chalita, who uses a single continuous line to create portraits full of identity, movement, and emotion. Each piece challenges traditional portrait perception by demonstrating how one line can convey depth and personality without ornamental elements.

During the opening ceremony, Museo de la Isla director Isela Carrillo Cupul highlighted Chalita’s extensive career, which includes over 50 solo exhibitions, around 40 group shows, and participation in more than 60 national and international auctions. His work has been displayed at Mexico’s Senate, Chamber of Deputies, the Museo de las Artes of the University of Guadalajara (MUSA), as well as consulates, embassies, and galleries in the United States and Europe. Chalita is also a member of the Società delle Belle Arti – Circolo degli Artisti Casa di Dante in Florence, Italy, one of Europe’s oldest art associations.

In recognition of his career and collaboration with the island, FPMC presented Chalita with a special award for his second exhibition at the Museo de la Isla.

Chalita expressed his deep connection to Cozumel and thanked FPMC for opening the museum’s doors to share his work. He also announced plans to work with the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) to develop activities for children focused on drawing, color, and creativity, using art as a tool for learning and development.

FPMC Director General Juanita Alonso Marrufo said culture is fundamental to strengthening social fabric, promoting community participation, and generating well-being. She noted that such exhibitions are part of the institution’s commitment to expanding access to art and consolidating open cultural spaces, in line with the Nuevo Acuerdo por el Bienestar y Desarrollo de Quintana Roo.

The exhibition “El Origen del Trazo” is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Museo de la Isla in Cozumel. Admission is free.
