19 Quintana Roo Transport Concessions Under Investigation

Cristina Torres Gómez, the Secretary of Government, has announced that 19 public transport concessions across various municipalities in Quintana Roo are currently under investigation for possible revocation. This follows the cancellation of 9 other concessions last year. Torres Gómez stated, "We have already completely revoked 9 concessions, and there are currently 19 more under investigation. With recent changes to the law, any serious infraction that breaks regulations will lead to almost immediate revocation of the concession."

Torres Gómez explained that these ongoing investigations are aimed at identifying and punishing misconduct within the public transport service. She emphasized that if the concession holder is found guilty, their concession will be terminated. She also mentioned that local Congress members recently approved a proposal to amend the penal code and the State's Mobility Law. This move is designed to make transportation safer and more competitive for everyone.

In an effort to deter attacks on transport services, whether public or private, the government has introduced Article 162 Bis. This new law imposes stricter penalties for damage caused, with prison sentences ranging from 2 to 6 years.
