Playa del Carmen Water System Upgrade to Benefit 14,000 Residents

Construction workers installing new water pipes in Playa del Carmen as part of a water system upgrade project

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Water utility Aguakan is modernizing the drinking water network in Playa del Carmen’s Sector 4 with an investment exceeding 43.6 million pesos to improve service in the area.

The project spans from Avenida 34 to the CTM neighborhood and from the federal highway toward the coast, aiming to ensure efficient and sufficient long-term water supply.

These infrastructure improvements address rapid urban growth in the city center, where vertical developments have replaced single-family homes, increasing demand for drinking water.

Workers have already installed more than 2,500 meters of PVC piping in various diameters, along with eight valve boxes to strengthen the hydraulic network.

The project is being carried out in coordination with the municipal Infrastructure Department to ensure compliance with technical standards and orderly execution.

This upgrade will benefit more than 14,000 people by improving water pressure and service continuity while strengthening infrastructure for Playa del Carmen’s sustainable development.
