Playa del Carmen Treasurer Resigns Amid Irregularities Claims

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Javier Regalado Hendricks, the municipal treasurer of Playa del Carmen, submitted his irrevocable resignation on May 21, 2026, citing personal and professional reasons.

In a letter addressed to Mayor Estefanía Mercado, Regalado thanked the administration for its trust and expressed willingness to carry out a transparent handover process in accordance with applicable regulations. He also reiterated his commitment to public service and wished the current administration success.

The resignation comes amid public allegations of irregularities within the Treasury Department, which have drawn attention in local political circles.

The Playa del Carmen City Council is expected to formally accept the resignation and appoint a new treasurer.
