Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The municipal government will begin rehabilitating the access road to Punta Esmeralda beach in mid-July, a project aimed at improving safety, accessibility, and the area’s urban appearance.
Dorys Aké Sierra, secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works, said work is scheduled to start between July 15 and 20 and will take approximately 90 days to complete.
The project includes rebuilding the access road, installing a welcome arch, and constructing a causeway to address long-standing subsidence issues in the area.
“This is a project designed to provide greater safety and improve the experience for visitors to Punta Esmeralda, incorporating proposals from specialists and citizens,” Aké Sierra said.
The rehabilitation will also include inclusive infrastructure such as tactile paving for visually impaired people, handrails, and other adaptations to make the area easier for all visitors to navigate.
Officials are still analyzing how to preserve parking spaces, mainly for people with disabilities and emergency vehicles, to ensure accessibility and prompt response in case of emergencies.
The work is part of a broader municipal infrastructure maintenance and rehabilitation program planned for various points in Playa del Carmen this year, aimed at improving public spaces and mobility for residents and tourists.
