Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A driver has publicly denounced an alleged irregularity in the enforcement of the PlayaParq parking meter system, claiming his vehicle was immobilized even though he had a valid parking receipt.
The incident occurred in a regulated zone of downtown Playa del Carmen and was captured on video by bystanders. The footage quickly spread on social media, sparking debate among residents about the operation of the paid parking system and the use of wheel immobilization devices known as “spiders.”
According to the driver, his payment was still active when enforcement personnel placed the device on his car, leading to complaints and questions about the procedure. Workers involved with the program said they could not verify the payment during the inspection.
The situation drew widespread reactions on social media, with many users expressing dissatisfaction over fines, electronic validations, and other measures implemented under the regulated parking scheme on various city streets.
