Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Mexican singer-songwriter Nicho Hinojosa publicly called out the broken air conditioning system at the Teatro de la Ciudad during his performance this weekend, sparking widespread reactions on social media.

During a sold-out show, Hinojosa paused to address the issue, telling the audience, “The AC isn’t working — I want to give you the correct information.” He clarified that his comments were not related to vocal concerns but to the uncomfortable conditions inside the venue.

The problem is not new, according to audience accounts. The theater, located on Avenidas 115 and 125 next to the Cruz de Servicios, has reportedly lacked functioning air conditioning since at least April 15, when the National Ballet of Panama performed Don Quixote there. Similar issues arose on April 17 during the International Dance Festival “Todo por el Arte,” featuring Argentine company NNEATREROS, and again on April 30 during a children’s Day of the Child performance of Feroz, where attendees complained of heat inside the venue.

As of Monday, Ernesto Santiago Martínez Cuéllar, director of the Municipal Institute of Culture and Arts, had not issued an official statement regarding the AC failures.
