New O’Horán Hospital in Yucatán to Offer Free High-Specialty Cardiac and Brain Surgeries

Mérida, Yucatán — The new Hospital General “Dr. Agustín O’Horán” will offer free, highly specialized cardiac and brain procedures using cutting-edge technology, state and federal officials announced Wednesday.

Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena said the hospital will be equipped with internationally advanced medical technology to perform complex procedures such as open-heart surgery and catheterizations at no cost to patients.

“We have state-of-the-art equipment that will be at the service of the people of Yucatán so that open-heart surgeries or catheterizations can be performed with all the required reliability,” Díaz Mena said during a tour of the facility.

Alejandro Svarch Pérez, director general of IMSS-Bienestar, said the hospital will house a new-generation angiograph — the most advanced in southeastern Mexico. The equipment will enable cardiac catheterization, cerebral hemodynamic studies, and specialized care for pediatric patients.

Specialist nurse Jhoana de Jesús Benítez Ramírez explained that the angiograph provides real-time images of heart function and artery condition, aiding in the detection and timely treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

“It allows us to see the arteries, those that are obstructed or chronic, to detect the pathology and treat the patient’s condition,” Benítez Ramírez said.

Svarch Pérez noted that Benítez Ramírez is one of the few nurses in the region specialized in hemodynamic procedures. He added that complementary equipment records heart chamber pressures, ensuring greater precision and safety.

“This is the most advanced equipment nationally for performing highly effective procedures in treating heart attacks and vascular alterations. Most importantly, we will be doing it free of charge,” Svarch Pérez said.

Governor Díaz Mena emphasized that the new O’Horán Hospital will operate as a “hospital without a cash register,” with all services provided free of charge.
