Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo — Mexican authorities have approved a $250 million solar energy park in the state of Quintana Roo, marking a significant step toward clean energy development in the region.
The Federal Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) granted environmental approval for the “Nicté-Ha Photovoltaic Park” project, which will be developed by company ZML Quintana Roo in the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
The project involves installing approximately 361,800 bifacial photovoltaic modules, each with a capacity of 670 watts, across a 436.05-hectare site covered by medium sub-perennial rainforest. To establish the project, developers must change the land use designation for approximately 431 hectares of forested terrain.
The solar park will connect to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) transmission network through a 3-kilometer, 230-kilovolt transmission line. The system will include all necessary transformer centers and high-voltage connections, delivering power at 230 kV to a newly constructed 200 MVA step-up substation.
The site is located 13.6 kilometers west of Felipe Carrillo Puerto city and 4.8 kilometers east of the Chunhuás community along Federal Highway 184.
According to the administrative resolution on environmental impact, the company has two and a half years to complete construction and 43 years for operation and maintenance of the facility.
Key project components include photovoltaic panels, horizontal trackers, inverters, concentrator boxes, main connection and disconnection equipment, control buildings, perimeter fencing, security systems, internal and access roads, inverter buildings, transformation centers, main transformers, batteries, transmission lines, and perimeter fencing.
