Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The Mexican Navy evacuated a 42-day-old infant from Isla Mujeres to Cancun on Monday after the baby suffered an intestinal blockage requiring specialized medical attention.

Personnel from the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) on Isla Mujeres, part of the Fifth Naval Region, responded to an emergency request from the island’s community hospital.

A Defender-class boat from ENSAR Isla Mujeres transported the baby and his mother across the sea to Puerto Juarez. Upon arrival, paramedics received the patient and continued the transfer by land to a hospital in Cancun.

The Navy said the operation highlights its role in providing emergency support to island communities where sea transport is essential for accessing specialized medical services.
