Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Mexican authorities arrested a 27-year-old man on Monday who was wanted in the United States for his alleged involvement in multiple homicides and attempted murders in Illinois.

Jesus “N,” a suspected member of the Latin Kings gang, was taken into custody on Avenida Gaston Alegre Lopez in the mainland area of Isla Mujeres without incident, according to the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office.

State Attorney General Raciel Lopez Salazar said the arrest resulted from coordination between Mexican authorities and US security agencies, which shared intelligence on the fugitive’s possible location in Mexico.

US authorities have linked Jesus “N” to at least 11 homicides and several armed attacks in Illinois dating back to October 2018. He is also accused of multiple attempted murders.

Following his capture, the suspect was handed over to Mexican immigration authorities to begin extradition proceedings. He is expected to be transferred to the United States to face the charges against him.

The Attorney General’s Office highlighted the case as an example of successful international cooperation in locating and apprehending high-priority targets sought by foreign authorities.
