Maya Merchant Robbed After Accepting Ride in Quintana Roo

A Maya woman from Santa Rosa community who was robbed after accepting a ride

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo — A Maya woman from the community of Santa Rosa has reported being violently assaulted and robbed after accepting a ride from a couple while returning home from work.

The victim, identified as María Concepción P. K., said she had spent the day selling embroidered items, coconut candies, pepita, and pinole in the community of Señor. After finishing her work, she went to a bus stop to wait for transportation. A man and a woman in a royal blue car offered her a ride to her destination.

Trusting their apparent kindness, she got into the vehicle. However, upon reaching the junction of San José II, the driver allegedly left the main road and drove onto a dirt path into the bush, where the attack occurred.

According to her testimony, the couple beat her, threatened her with a knife, and tried to force her to ingest a substance. They stole her gold chains and rings, as well as the money she had earned from selling her products.

Despite the assault, the woman managed to escape and walked to the community of San José, where a resident helped her return to her home in Santa Rosa. She recalled that the female attacker wore a lime green blouse and black pants.

The case has been reported to authorities, who are investigating to locate the suspects. Officials are asking anyone with information to come forward.
