Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa inaugurated the fully renovated Las Iguanas park in the Polígono 2 neighborhood, benefiting 2,804 local residents. The park now features a renewed image and new amenities, including internet access.

The rehabilitation is part of the “Que Brille Chetumal” program, a state government initiative supporting the municipal government to strengthen community coexistence and build peace.

The park, adopted by the Digital Transformation Agency for its upkeep, was originally established as a public space in 2013. It had suffered years of neglect and vandalism, limiting its use by families and neighbors.

Renovation work included cleaning 529 square meters of trash and debris, pruning and maintaining green areas, painting nearly 1,000 meters of curbs and access points, renewing playground equipment and benches, and installing new lighting for safety.

The children’s court was also upgraded with 104 square meters of synthetic turf, providing better conditions for sports and recreation for children and young people.

Lezama reiterated that the Agency for Strategic Projects of the State of Quintana Roo (ATDQROO) will oversee maintenance to preserve the improvements and ensure the community can continue to use the space.

Joining the governor were agency director Javier Ayuso, Undersecretary Nabil Eljure Terrazas, Chief Officer Adrián Díaz Villanueva, ICATQROO director Alejandro Alamilla, and Othón P. Blanco municipal secretary Luis Gamero Barranco.
