Cancun, Quintana Roo — A man was shot and killed Monday evening in the Valle Verde neighborhood of Cancun, with witnesses reporting approximately 10 gunshots, according to local authorities.
The attack occurred around 7:26 p.m. when residents called 911 to report multiple gunshots in the area, about one kilometer from Avenida José López Portillo.
Municipal police officers arrived at the scene and found a man lying on the public road with gunshot wounds. Paramedics who arrived shortly after confirmed the victim had no vital signs.
Preliminary reports indicate that most of the gunshot wounds were to the victim’s head, causing fatal injuries.
Police cordoned off the area to preserve the crime scene while forensic experts processed evidence and collected ballistic materials for the investigation.
The body was taken to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) for an autopsy to officially determine the cause of death and identify the victim.
Authorities have not released the victim’s identity or a possible motive for the attack. The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation to identify and locate those responsible.
