Cancun, Quintana Roo — A middle-aged man was found dead inside his home in the Residencial Arbolada complex on Saturday, and his sister told investigators that several valuables and a vehicle were missing from the property.
The woman, identified as Veronica, said she had been unable to reach her brother by phone for several days. She went to his house on Enebro Street in the Supermanzana 336 area and discovered his body. She called emergency services at 9:28 a.m.
Officers from the Benito Juarez Public Security Department arrived at the scene and confirmed the death. The woman also reported that various valuables and a vehicle that was usually parked at the home were gone.
Forensic personnel from the Medical Examiner’s Service removed the body for an autopsy.
The home is located near a roundabout with a park, basketball and soccer courts, a children’s play area, and a small kiosk. Neighbors said the victim was often seen doing maintenance on his car in the driveway.
Yellow crime scene tape that had been placed at the entrance was found broken on Sunday, leaving the house accessible.
The administration of Residencial Arbolada, a development by Grupo Cumbres built in 2011 along Huayacan Avenue, issued a statement saying the incident was a private matter and that the complex had no reports of violence or disturbances. They urged residents to avoid speculation and let authorities investigate.
The discovery comes five days after the arrest of Remigio Valdez Lao, alias Milo, in the same residential complex. Valdez Lao is identified as an operator and financier for a Cuban-American criminal organization and faces extradition to the United States on charges of human trafficking and organized crime. He was arrested along with Joseline Garcia Biscaino, who was found with 38 doses of marijuana and a gray SUV. Valdez Lao was flown to Mexico City for extradition proceedings.
