Cancun, Quintana Roo — The XIV Festival of the Oceans of the Mexican Caribbean continued Friday night with an artistic evening blending environmental education and culture at the Teatro de la Ciudad.
Music and fashion came together to raise awareness about the fragility of the seas and the urgent need for their preservation, using cultural expressions that highlight the beauty and vulnerability of marine ecosystems for the region’s well-being.
“This celebration invites us to reflect on the immense natural wealth of our seas and our responsibility to protect them. With that spirit of awareness, hope, and commitment to nature, the band of the Tenth Military Region joined this important commemoration with a program prepared especially for us,” said Miguel Canseco, director of responsibility and communication at Delphinus and coordinator of the festival.
Before the concert, the “Runway for the Ocean” featured swimsuits made from sustainable materials. The collection, presented by Uniformes Pre, included garments made from balea fiber obtained from recycled plastic bottles, with designs inspired by corals and emblematic marine species. The initiative demonstrated that it is possible to reduce environmental impact and generate practical solutions against pollution through creative processes that transform consumption habits.
After the runway show with pieces for both women and men, the Concert for the Oceans began, performed by the Music Band of the Tenth Military Region of the Mexican Army. The musical pieces honored marine biodiversity, creating a deep emotional connection with the Cancun audience.
The band played a wide repertoire, from classics like “La Mer (Beyond the Sea),” “Space and Beyond,” and “Festive Overture,” to danceable pieces such as “Nunca es Suficiente” by Natalia Lafourcade with Los Ángeles Azules and a Queen medley.
Organizers announced that the festival’s official closing will take place Sunday, June 7, in Playa del Carmen, with another performance by the military band and the awards ceremony for the Fifth University Cineminute Contest, which included participants from seven countries, at the Xaman-Ha Theater.
