Vózeres Sees Choral Music as a Tourist Draw for Quintana Roo

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Choral music can become a cultural tourist attraction for Quintana Roo, according to Edgar González Salzmann, artistic director of the vocal ensemble Vózeres. He said the growth of choral music in the destination, along with independent initiatives, shows that music is a key way to project the region’s identity.

“Vózeres belongs to the Coral Cun group, which has organized 14 international festivals and brought choirs from around the world,” González Salzmann said. “Our festival runs from September 24 to 28, but our mission is to spread lesser-known Mexican music, as well as traditional and folk music, around the world.”

The goal, he explained, is to begin positioning traditional Mexican music on the global stage through international exchange, fostering the musical development of the local community and attracting the attention of conductors and choirs from different countries.

This year’s international festival, scheduled for late September, will serve as a prelude to a major tour of South America, he added.

He also expressed confidence that promoting choral concerts can draw visitors interested in culture who are looking for wholesome family activities.

“This tourist segment helps energize the local economy, benefiting restaurants, transportation and businesses located outside the large hotel circuit,” he said.

Vózeres members see their mission as spreading a message of unity through song. “We want to raise our voices through music and share happiness through songs and the voice,” said Adriana Gil Díaz, a member of the group. “This time we have the chance thanks to this wonderful project that Edgar has brought together with Coral Cun and Vózeres.”

To finance the South American tour, the group is organizing a raffle with support from local sponsors, who have donated hotel stays and various items. The fundraiser will take place on October 20, and organizers are urging the public to support the artists by purchasing tickets through the Vózeres Ensamble Vocal social media channels.
