Cancun, Quintana Roo — A man was arrested on a public beach in Cancun after authorities found him with dozens of bags of suspected marijuana, officials said.

Oscar Alberto “N” was taken into custody on Playa del Niño, a public beach located between the Pirata Barba Negra and El Cubano restaurants in the Puerto Juarez neighborhood, in the municipality of Benito Juarez.

Officers from the Centurion Group of the Public Security Department, working with the Mexican Navy, the Mexican Army, and the National Guard, spotted the man handling several small transparent plastic bags containing a green vegetable matter resembling marijuana, according to a statement.

During a search, authorities seized a backpack containing 38 ziplock-style bags of the suspected marijuana and a cellphone.

The suspect was handed over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Drug Dealing Crimes.
