Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The municipal government of Isla Mujeres installed its Fifth Children’s Council for 2026, an initiative aimed at strengthening children’s participation and their right to be heard.

The ceremony was led by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, with honorary president of the municipal DIF (Family Development System), Alicia Ricalde Magaña, highlighting that the island works to ensure children have a voice and active role.

Ricalde Magaña said the administration promotes actions that foster respect, inclusion, and equality, providing opportunities for new generations to grow with values and a sense of responsibility.

The Children’s Council serves as a space where local children can freely express their ideas and participate in decision-making. A total of 11 members — six girls and five boys — assumed roles including president, trustee, and councilors, addressing issues related to their social, educational, and community environment.
