Cancun — In the context of her First Government Report, Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta highlighted historic results in environmental protection and animal welfare. These include the safeguarding of 969,808 sea turtle eggs, the release of 885,105 hatchlings, and the launch of the Arboriza Cancun program, which projects the planting of 11,000 native trees during this administration.
With the Sea Turtle Protection and Conservation Program, she detailed that in coordination with the hotel sector and under strict conservation guidelines, 12 kilometers of coastline were covered. This effort protected 9,505 nests through more than 1,240 surveillance patrols and 183 environmental education activities, consolidating Cancun as a national reference in species preservation.
In parallel, she mentioned that Arboriza Cancun is advancing with the planting of 2,781 native trees and plants in parks and public spaces, strengthening biodiversity and urban resilience, contributing to the final goal of 11,000 trees.
Furthermore, with a humanistic vision, animal welfare campaigns were reinforced with nearly 5,000 veterinary consultations, 4,120 deworming treatments, 2,100 sterilizations, and 239 adoptions. Legal actions against animal maltreatment were also taken, with 1,778 complaints attended to and prompt action taken in risk situations. As a result, 10 criminal complaints for animal abuse and cruelty were filed with the Specialized Attorney General's Office for Combating Environmental, Fauna, and Urban Development Crimes.
Another environmental achievement was the Urban Cenotes Program, which was internationally recognized by UN-Water in the global campaign "World Water Day 2025." This recognition came thanks to the sanitation of these ecosystems with the participation of more than 1,200 volunteers and the removal of 22.7 tons of solid waste from these bodies of water.
"Every tree planted, every turtle released, and every protected pet represents firm steps towards the Cancun we dream of: a sustainable, supportive city with a profound respect for life," stated Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta in the lead-up to her First Government Report.
