Cancun, Quintana Roo — The 17th edition of the Hungary Cultural Festival in Cancun will take place from June 4 to 6, featuring a program of artistic, academic, and gastronomic activities that this year carries special significance as it marks the centennial of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Hungary.
The cultural gathering, which has become one of the leading international arts exchange events in the Mexican Caribbean, will offer free admission to the public and bring together musicians, dancers, and artists from various regions of Mexico and abroad. The University of the Caribbean will again serve as one of the main venues, alongside the Cancun City Theater.
Over three days, the festival will include concerts, film screenings, exhibitions, and food tastings inspired by Hungarian culture.
During the official presentation, organizers emphasized that the celebration aims not only to introduce Hungarian artistic expressions to Mexican audiences but also to strengthen the educational and cooperative ties built between the two nations over the past century.
The University of the Caribbean maintains exchange and mobility programs with Hungarian institutions, allowing students to participate in international educational experiences.
Festival founder and director Emőke Ujj highlighted that this edition will recognize the history of collaboration between the two countries through activities combining music, art, gastronomy, and knowledge.
The program includes piano recitals, dance performances, film screenings, and a closing gala. Highlights include performances of works by iconic Hungarian composers and the premiere of a contemporary musical piece created especially for this edition.
Students and faculty from the University of the Caribbean’s Gastronomy program will prepare a culinary showcase inspired by traditional Hungarian recipes, aiming to introduce the public to the characteristic flavors of the European nation.
Organizers said all activities will be free and open to the public, with the goal of strengthening cultural exchange and promoting knowledge of Hungarian traditions among residents and visitors to the Mexican Caribbean.
