Tulum to Host Freestyle Rap Competition

Tulum, Quintana Roo — Young rappers from across Quintana Roo and Yucatán will meet in Tulum on Sept. 19 for "Mexicanos al Grito del Rap," a freestyle competition with free admission and a guaranteed 5,000-peso prize for the winner.

Manuel Solís, leader of the Tiburones del Caribe union, said the event will be held at the organization’s facilities starting at 5 p.m. and open to the public. Participants are expected from Playa del Carmen, Cancún, Felipe Carrillo Puerto and other municipalities in Quintana Roo, along with young performers from Mérida, Yucatán.

"There will be a guaranteed purse of 5,000 pesos for the best rapper. Admission is totally free; the most important thing is that people come to see all the talent that the youth of Quintana Roo, Yucatán and neighboring states are bringing to compete, because it is an open competition," Solís said.

Solís explained that the call aims to create a space where young people interested in rap and freestyle battles can showcase their skills to the public. The competition remains open, so more participants from other localities and states could still join. During the event, food, soft drinks and other beverages will be sold for attendees.

Solís said the event is part of a plan to gradually hold more musical and cultural activities at the Tiburones del Caribe facilities. He repeated his invitation to the young people and families of Tulum to come on Sept. 19 to discover the participants of "Mexicanos al Grito del Rap," an event intended to shine a spotlight on urban talent in the region.
