Visitors at the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya during International Museum Day celebrations

Mérida, Yucatán — The Gran Museo del Mundo Maya celebrated International Museum Day with night tours, artistic performances, and family activities, drawing dozens of visitors and turning the venue into a hub for Yucatán’s culture and traditions.

The event featured free guided tours after dark, choral presentations, an artisan fair, and the performance “Metamorphosis of Origin” led by artist Edgar Canul González, which captivated the audience with a piece inspired by Maya identity and roots.

Public response was positive, with a large turnout that filled the museum’s spaces and reaffirmed families’ interest in accessible, quality cultural activities.

Activities continue Sunday with a free program for all attendees. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the UK’IIWIKIL KOONOL artisan fair will offer creations by local producers and craftspeople.

At 11 a.m., a children’s reading workshop titled “Muuch Ku Káayo’ob: Toads and Frogs in Maya Culture” will introduce children to the region’s cultural and natural heritage.

All activities are free, and the museum invites the public to join the celebration dedicated to Yucatán’s history, art, and cultural heritage.
