Former Playa del Carmen Mayor Lili Campos Summoned for Questioning Over Alleged Fund Misappropriation

Lili Campos, former mayor of Solidaridad, now Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Lili Campos Miranda, former mayor of Solidaridad (now Playa del Carmen), has been summoned to testify before the municipal Internal Control Office, along with two former officials, over two open investigations into alleged misappropriation of public funds.

The summons was made public through official edicts for administrative responsibility proceedings PRA-040/2025 and PRA-041/2025, both initiated in December 2025. The Internal Control Office detected suspected fund diversions, which constitute a serious offense, according to the documents.

The three former officials must appear at the new Municipal Palace on June 29 at the Internal Control Office’s Directorate of Investigation, Consultation, and Analysis, as stated in the edicts signed by its head, María Selene Neri Moreno. Those under investigation may also review the case files, which consist of 670 pages and 1,240 pages, respectively.

Failure to appear will result in subsequent notifications being posted only on official notice boards.

No details about the investigations have been released, and no municipal authority has publicly commented on the proceedings. However, the inclusion of the former director of entertainment in both cases suggests the alleged misappropriation may have occurred through the organization of events.

During the final year of Campos Miranda’s administration, multiple large-scale events were held in Playa del Carmen, including a Paulina Rubio concert announced just one week before it took place to celebrate an LGBT Pride march.

Kira Iris San, who also served as treasurer during Campos’ three-year term, has filed injunctions to avoid testifying before the Internal Control Office.
