Tulum, Quintana Roo — A foreign national was involved in a single-vehicle crash early Friday morning in Tulum’s coastal zone after allegedly driving under the influence. The incident occurred near the entrance to Parque Jaguar, where the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a light pole.
Details of the Accident
The crash took place around 12:30 a.m. near the Hotel Core, just meters from the main entrance to Parque Jaguar. According to preliminary reports, the driver was operating a family-style vehicle heading toward the archaeological zone when they attempted to turn at a nearby intersection. The driver lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off course and strike the utility infrastructure.
Despite the severity of the impact, no injuries were reported. However, significant material damage was sustained by both the vehicle and the light pole, which was visibly tilted following the collision.
Suspected Intoxication
Witnesses at the scene indicated that the driver exhibited signs of intoxication, though authorities have not yet confirmed whether alcohol testing was conducted. Municipal Transit officers arrived to document the incident and coordinate the removal of the wrecked vehicle. Public Services personnel also assessed the damage to the electrical infrastructure.
