Elevator Malfunction Traps Four, Injures One in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A worker was hospitalized after falling from a second floor while performing maintenance on an elevator, and four people were rescued after becoming trapped between the first and second floors of an apartment building in the city’s downtown area.

According to the Civil Protection agency, the incident occurred at a building on Calle 40 in the Centro neighborhood. Emergency personnel carried out maneuvers to open the elevator and safely extract the trapped individuals, who were unharmed but shaken.

One of the trapped victims suffered a panic attack and was taken to a hospital for medical attention.

The worker who fell from the second floor was immobilized under pre-hospital protocols to rule out possible injuries before being transported to a hospital for further care.
