Leona Vicario, Quintana Roo — A motorcyclist died in a crash Sunday night on the federal highway leading to Leona Vicario, about five kilometers from a police checkpoint.

Witnesses reported seeing a light in the vegetation along the roadside and found a man lying face down, wearing a biker vest and protective gear, next to his motorcycle, which was still running with its lights on.

Bystanders called emergency services, and police and rescue personnel responded quickly. Paramedics arrived but confirmed the motorcyclist had no vital signs.

Authorities cordoned off the area and waited for forensic investigators and ministerial agents to process the scene and begin an inquiry.

The victim’s identity has not been released, and it remains unclear whether another vehicle was involved or if the rider lost control for unknown reasons.
