Dog Dies, Two Rescued in Playa del Carmen Apartment Fire

Firefighters at the scene of an apartment fire in Playa del Carmen's Mision de las Flores neighborhood

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — One dog died and two others were rescued by firefighters during an apartment fire Monday night in the Misión de las Flores neighborhood.

The fire broke out in a home on Privada Halcón, near Avenida Lilis and an unnamed street. According to initial reports, the blaze likely started from a short circuit while the residents were not home.

Three pets were inside the apartment at the time. Firefighters entered the unit to extinguish the flames and rescue the animals, saving two dogs. The third dog died as a result of the fire.

Neighbors reported that the intense heat caused a window to shatter, sending flames toward the exterior of the building and alarming residents.

After bringing the fire under control, authorities cordoned off the area to investigate the exact cause of the blaze.

The apartment sustained significant material damage, and the death of one pet marked the most tragic outcome of the incident.
