Cozumel, Quintana Roo — The Museum of the Island in Cozumel will host the exhibition “El Origen del Trazo: Rostros, Emoción y Movimiento en una Sola Línea” (The Origin of the Stroke: Faces, Emotion and Movement in a Single Line) by renowned visual artist Emilio Chalita Aceves. The show opens June 26 at 8 p.m. with free admission.
Isela Carrillo Cupul, director of the museum, said the exhibition marks a new phase in Chalita’s artistic evolution. The Jalisco-born artist has built a national and international career exploring human emotions. In this series, he uses visual synthesis and the expressive power of continuous line, turning each stroke into a manifestation of identity, movement and sensitivity.
“El Origen del Trazo” brings together a collection of faces created from a single uninterrupted gesture. Carrillo Cupul explained that the minimalist approach invites viewers to discover how simplicity can convey deep emotions and meanings, revealing stories and human experiences that connect with each person’s essence.
Chalita has a solid career with more than 50 solo exhibitions, 40 group shows and participation in over 60 national and international auctions. His work has been presented in major cultural venues in Mexico, the United States and Europe, moving between contemporary cubism, neo-expressionism and emotional abstraction.
Juanita Alonso Marrufo, general director of the Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation (FPMC), said the museum continues to establish itself as a meeting point for diverse artistic and cultural expressions, bringing innovative proposals to enrich Cozumel’s cultural life. She reiterated the invitation to the public to attend the opening on June 26 at 8 p.m. at the Museum of the Island. Admission is free.
