Construction Company Driver Dies in Rollover Crash on Chetumal-Bacalar Highway
Chetumal, Quintana Roo — A driver for construction company Grupo INDI died Monday night after his vehicle rolled over on the Chetumal-Bacalar highway near the community of Xul-Ha.
The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Federal Highway 307, in front of the National Institute of Forestry, Agricultural and Livestock Research (INIFAP). Authorities believe excessive speed caused the driver to lose control and overturn.
Witnesses and passing motorists alerted emergency services, prompting a response from private paramedics and police officers. Paramedics arrived at the scene but could only confirm that the driver had no vital signs.
National Guard officers took charge of the investigation and managed traffic flow.
According to unofficial reports, Grupo INDI recently established operations in Chetumal to work on the Maya Train project in southern Quintana Roo.
The fatal accident adds to a long list of deadly crashes on this stretch of highway, which motorists have dubbed the ‘death stretch’ due to its dangerous reputation.
