Century Market Makeover: Solidaridad’s Transformation Project Unveiled

The Solidaridad municipal government has launched the first phase of a significant renovation project for the renowned Century Market, located in the tourist hotspot of Playa del Carmen. This initiative, which involves an investment of 10 million pesos, is part of President Estefanía Mercado's commitment to ensure prosperity for the residents of Solidaridad. This package of public works is designed to benefit the market's tenants and enhance the urban image of the property.

The Municipal Infrastructure and Public Works Secretariat is spearheading the project. Upon completion, the renovation will benefit 35 tenants, each of whom will gain access to potable water and natural gas services. The project was detailed at a meeting held in the market's restaurant area by Antón Bojórquez, Secretary of Economic Development and Investment Attraction, and Estefanía Hernández, Municipal Tourism Secretary.

Bojórquez revealed that each tenant location will be serviced by Desarrollos Hidraúlicos de Cancún, also known as Aguakan, for potable water, and Migas for natural gas, enhancing customer service. Hernández added that the Century Market, in its second phase of renovation, will undergo a complete makeover. This will enable it to play a vital role in tourism promotion as part of the "Playa del Carmen City" brand and the "Let's Playa" digital application, thereby elevating the market's status.

Jimena Robertos, the Project Coordinator of the Municipal Infrastructure and Public Works Secretariat, explained that the first phase of the project involves renovating the rooftop parking lot. In addition, the storm drains, the stairway leading to the second level, the ceiling, flooring, lighting, and bathrooms will all be upgraded. The second phase will focus on improving the main facade, aligning the market's image with the world-class tourist destination that is Playa del Carmen.
