Cancún, Quintana Roo — Cancún officials will hold free spay-and-neuter clinics for dogs and cats later this month as part of the city’s Animal Welfare Caravans program.
Registration is set for Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the domo (community center) in Región 77, in the Corales area. The sterilization procedures will take place Wednesday, Aug. 26, and Thursday, Aug. 27, starting at 8 a.m. at the same location.
The program has space for 250 pets, and officials recommend arriving early to secure a spot.
To register, pet owners must bring a copy of their proof of address and official identification, along with the animal for a preliminary health check. Each adult may register only one pet.
Officials also issued recommendations ahead of the procedures. Cats must be transported in backpacks or carriers, and owners should bring a towel on the day of surgery. Pets must be in good health.
The Animal Welfare Caravans are part of a broader public health strategy. Controlling the animal population helps reduce abandonment and potential health risks in the city, according to authorities, who urged residents to take part.
