Cancún, Quintana Roo — Cancún and other Mexican Caribbean destinations are seeing moderate hotel occupancy this weekend, even as the Cancún International Airport keeps up a busy flight schedule with 390 operations planned for Saturday.
According to the Aug. 19 occupancy report from the Association of Hotels of Cancún, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, Cancún’s Hotel Zone posted 64.4% occupancy, while its monthly average stood at 65.9% — below the 68% registered during the same period in 2025.
In downtown Cancún, daily occupancy reached 59.5%, although the August average was 52.2%, also down from 58.4% a year earlier.
Puerto Morelos showed the weakest performance, with daily occupancy at 44.3% and a monthly average of 51.1%, compared with 64% in August 2025.
Isla Mujeres’ continental zone recorded 65% occupancy, with a monthly average of 69%, below the 73% reached in the same period last year.
Air traffic remains strong
Despite the softer hotel numbers, the Cancún airport continues to offer broad domestic and international connectivity. Saturday’s schedule includes 390 operations: 194 arrivals, split between 79 domestic and 115 international flights, and 196 departures, with 79 domestic and 117 international.
The report also shows an increase in hotel room inventory compared with 2025. Cancún’s Hotel Zone now has 35,609 rooms, up from 34,903 last year, though 1,887 rooms remain closed for renovations.
