Cancún, Quintana Roo — The cycling community in Cancún is gearing up to celebrate the first anniversary of “Rodando Cancún,” a program that over the past 12 months has become a key space for coexistence, recreation, and promotion of active mobility in the municipality of Benito Juárez.

As part of the commemoration, the Benito Juárez city council has invited residents to participate in a special 10-kilometer bike ride that will travel along some of the city’s main avenues on the evening of Saturday, June 6.

The activity is part of the municipal strategy “Cancún nos une por la transformación,” which aims to promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen family bonding, and encourage environmentally friendly transportation alternatives.

Anniversary Ride Route

According to the official call, participants will gather starting at 6:00 p.m. at Plaza de la Reforma, in front of the Cancún Municipal Palace. The start flag-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and the route will cover approximately 10 kilometers.

The course includes major thoroughfares such as Avenida Tulum, Avenida Uxmal, Avenida Bonampak, Avenida Cobá, Avenida La Costa, and Avenida Xcaret, before returning to the starting point.

After the ride, between 8:00 and 8:15 p.m., a commemorative ceremony will be held for the program’s first anniversary, along with a group photo of all attendees.

Promoting Active Mobility

Since its launch, Rodando Cancún has promoted bicycle use as a safe, healthy, and sustainable transportation option within the city. The initiative also aims to raise awareness among drivers and pedestrians about the importance of responsibly sharing public spaces and respecting non-motorized transport users.

Municipal authorities highlighted that such activities strengthen community integration, encourage healthy habits, and help reduce the environmental impact of excessive motor vehicle use.

Safety Recommendations

Organizers noted that participation is free and open to all ages, inviting families, cycling groups, and friends to join the celebration. They recommended checking bicycles beforehand—especially brakes and tires—and wearing helmets, reflective lights, and bringing enough water for a safe ride.

Due to the event, Municipal Traffic officers will implement partial closures and escort operations along the route. Drivers are urged to take precautions and follow authorities’ instructions.
