Cancun, Quintana Roo — A judge has sentenced Wilber Pérez de la Cruz to 12 years in prison for his role in an armed robbery at a commercial establishment in the Paseos del Mar neighborhood.

The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office said the robbery occurred at a business on Isla Martinica Street in Supermanzana 251, where two employees were working at the checkout area.

Investigators determined that Pérez de la Cruz entered the store with another man. He threatened workers with a knife, forcing them away from the cash registers while his accomplice stole cash and several packs of cigarettes. Surveillance footage also showed Pérez de la Cruz taking a soft drink from the refrigerator before fleeing.

Following an investigation by state police detectives, an arrest warrant was issued and executed on May 22, 2024, in Cancun.

During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that proved Pérez de la Cruz’s guilt in the charge of aggravated robbery. In addition to the prison term, the judge imposed a fine of 9,771.30 Mexican pesos.
