Cancun Restaurants Launch Discount Coupon Book to Combat Crisis

Cancún, Quintana Roo — The National Restaurant Industry Chamber (Canirac) is launching a discount coupon book in the coming days to encourage local and tourist dining, aiming to reverse a sharp decline in business that has left many establishments struggling to survive.

Perla Flores Navarro, a Canirac representative, said final technical details are being finalized. The coupon book will be promoted across social media and in restaurants, offering special discounts, incentives, and additional services, along with unique dishes.

More than 50 businesses have already registered to participate, with expectations that the initial launch will include around 100 establishments. A second phase is planned to expand rapidly in the following months to other destinations such as Puerto Morelos, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, and Cozumel, aiming to support the entire gastronomic industry.

Flores Navarro noted that the sector is currently united and actively working on multiple fronts, including dialogues with authorities and agreements with organizations like Coparmex and Náuticos, as well as universities and other productive sectors, to help the industry emerge from the crisis.

“We will use all the resources Canirac has to sustain operations and employment,” she said.

She acknowledged that conditions have not been favorable, with operations falling below projections. However, the industry has implemented various measures to maintain its workforce.

The coupon book is expected to be released in the next few days, accompanied by a strong promotional campaign to highlight benefits for local consumers, national visitors arriving in the region, and international tourists. The goal is to showcase the wide variety of gastronomic options available, including high-quality restaurants across all price ranges, and to boost business operations during the challenging months ahead of the winter season.
