Crime scene tape cordoning off area under Maya Train bridge in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Authorities discovered the body of an unidentified man Sunday evening beneath the Maya Train bridge in the northwestern part of the city.

Municipal police found the body around 7 p.m. between the Cristo Rey and Nuevo Noh-Beh communities. The man, believed to be about 40 years old, was lying face up with no visible signs of violence, according to preliminary reports.

Officials suspect the death may have been from natural causes, but the State Prosecutor’s Office will conduct an investigation to confirm the cause.

Police cordoned off the area while forensic investigators processed the scene and removed the body. The remains were taken to the Forensic Medical Service for identification and eventual release to family members.
