Police Arrest ‘El Ruso’ in Joint Quintana Roo-Jalisco Operation

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office said it arrested Ángel Eduardo N., known as “El Ruso,” a man described as a priority target in the state’s crime atlas and one of the main drivers of violence in Playa del Carmen.

The arrest came after a joint operation between Quintana Roo investigative police and the Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office. Officers located the suspect in the municipality of Zapopan following three months of intelligence work, field investigations and technological analysis.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Ángel Eduardo N. faces an arrest warrant for aggravated murder in connection with a killing on June 15 at the Palmas I residential complex in Playa del Carmen. Investigators allege that he and another individual ordered the murder of a victim who was shot inside a home and later died from the injuries.

A second arrest warrant was issued for another aggravated murder on June 23, this time in the parking lot of a self-service store on Luis Donaldo Colosio Avenue, also in Playa del Carmen. Officials said “El Ruso” is believed to have been the mastermind behind both killings, allegedly using members of a criminal cell to carry out the attacks.

The Quintana Roo prosecutor’s office also linked the suspect to several other homicides registered this year in Playa del Carmen, reinforcing his reputation as one of the municipality’s main drivers of violence.

Following his arrest, the suspect will be handed over to the judicial authority that requested him so the legal process can continue and his legal status can be determined.
