Tulum, Quintana Roo — Residents of Tulum’s Centro neighborhood are demanding action from health and environmental authorities over what they describe as a clandestine animal crematorium operating in a residential zone.
For nearly a month, families say, constant smoke and foul odors have made it impossible to open windows or spend time outdoors.
The Municipal Ecology Department said it responded to complaints and conducted inspections, confirming that the business does not have the required municipal permits to operate as a crematorium. Officials acknowledged that complaints have continued despite the inspections.
Neighbors are asking authorities to verify whether the property meets current regulations and, if not, to take appropriate enforcement measures.
