Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Authorities from federal, state and municipal levels have agreed to step up security operations in Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos and Tulum, aiming to strengthen crime prevention and maintain safe spaces for residents and visitors.
Mayor Estefanía Mercado led a follow-up meeting of the Peace and Security Building Table, where new coordination measures were established among the law enforcement agencies responsible for surveillance in the region.
During the meeting, held at the Municipal Public Security Department, officials presented the Operational Inspection Plan for bars, nightclubs and entertainment venues — a preventive strategy to verify safety conditions and reinforce monitoring at these establishments.
Mercado stressed that coordination among federal, state and municipal authorities will be key to maintaining order in the city, and acknowledged the participation of the Mexican Army, the Mexican Navy, the State Prosecutor’s Office and police forces.
“It is time to take action and join forces to reinforce our territory. We are working as a team to continue strengthening security in Playa del Carmen and the entire region,” she said.
The mayor stated that security results show significant progress, but warned against relaxing operational efforts or letting down their guard.
She also referred to a recent incident at a restaurant in the city that caused concern among the public, calling it a challenge to continue strengthening security strategies.
“It was an isolated incident that hurt all of us. I know the commitment, vocation and love that our security forces have for serving the citizens,” she said.
Authorities agreed to maintain coordinated efforts and continue preventive operations to ensure tranquility in the municipalities of northern Quintana Roo.
