Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo — State prosecutors exhumed the body of a dog named “Tigre” on Sunday as part of an investigation into its death, after the animal was fatally stabbed last week in a case that has sparked public outrage.
The attack occurred Thursday evening at the intersection of Lázaro Cárdenas and Constituyentes avenues, where the dog’s owner, a street performer from Argentina, witnessed the assault. The suspect, who used a sharp object, remains unidentified.
The owner buried the dog in a green area of the Jesús Martínez Ross neighborhood. The State Prosecutor’s Office took over the case and exhumed the remains to perform a necropsy at the forensic medical service to determine the exact cause of death.
The incident has stirred controversy, as the dog had been involved in a previous altercation in which its owner allegedly attacked a young man after claiming his dog had been hit by a car. The owner, who lives in a converted van parked near a local park, has also faced questions about his immigration status.
Investigations are ongoing to locate the person responsible for the animal’s death.
