Man’s Body in Advanced Decomposition Found in Tulum Vacant Lot

Forensic officers investigate a vacant lot in Tulum where a decomposed body was found

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A man’s body in an advanced state of decomposition was found Friday morning in a vacant lot in Tulum’s downtown area, near the sports unit.

The body was discovered in a lot at the intersection of Polar Poniente, Acuario Norte and Sacil-Há streets, next to a gym and a construction site. An emergency call to 911 alerted authorities to the presence of an apparently unconscious person at the location.

Tulum police officers arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area while initial procedures were carried out. Red Cross paramedics confirmed that the man showed no vital signs and that the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, which prevented authorities from determining on site how long he had been dead or the cause of death.

The State Prosecutor’s Office of Quintana Roo was notified and opened an investigation. Forensic personnel processed the scene and collected potential evidence to establish the circumstances of the death.

The body will be transported to the forensic medical service, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death and help identify the man.

Authorities have not yet reported visible injuries or signs of violence, and any hypothesis remains subject to the results of forensic tests and the ongoing investigation.
