Mexican Navy rescue boat with 16 people off the coast of Progreso, Yucatan

Progreso, Yucatan — The Mexican Navy rescued 16 people, including 12 adults and four children, from a small boat northeast of Progreso after authorities spotted the vessel with passengers aboard.

Personnel from the Yucalpetén Naval Search and Rescue Station (ENSAR) responded in a Defender-type boat after the port captaincy of Yucalpetén reported sighting a small white vessel with people on board, the Navy’s Ninth Naval Zone said.

The rescue team located the boat and brought the 12 adults and four minors to safety. Medical staff evaluated them and determined they were in stable condition.

The group was transported to naval installations, where coordination took place with the National Immigration Institute (INM). The individuals were then turned over to the appropriate authorities to begin administrative proceedings.

For maritime emergencies, the Ninth Naval Zone can be reached at 999 960 0682, while the Navy’s national hotline is 800 MARINA1 (800 627 4621).
