Argentine Driver Arrested After Crash on Federal Highway 307 in Quintana Roo

Two damaged vehicles being towed from the scene of a crash on Federal Highway 307 in Quintana Roo

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — An Argentine national was arrested Thursday following a traffic accident on Federal Highway 307 near the Liverpool store, where he allegedly vandalized the other vehicle involved, authorities said.

According to initial reports, the foreign driver was operating a Volkswagen Sedan with the right of way when he struck the rear right side of a white Toyota Avanza with Quintana Roo plates. The Toyota driver reportedly attempted to merge or cross traffic.

The impact sent the Volkswagen into the central median, where it came to a stop with significant damage. The Argentine driver’s wife and a child between seven and eight years old were also in the vehicle.

CostaMed paramedics treated the woman and child at the scene for minor injuries before transporting them to a hospital for further evaluation.

After the crash, the Argentine driver allegedly exited his vehicle and reacted violently toward the Toyota. Reports indicate he broke the driver’s side window and damaged the door handle while the other driver remained inside waiting for authorities.

Police arrived minutes later and took both drivers into custody. The Toyota driver was turned over to a civil judge to determine responsibility for the accident, while the Argentine citizen was handed over to the appropriate authorities for the alleged damage caused to the other vehicle.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene and taken to an impound lot, where they will remain pending further investigation.
