Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — Aguakan has reported 70% completion on its Zetina Gasca sewer project, a strategic infrastructure investment exceeding 34 million pesos that will benefit more than 11,000 residents in this coastal municipality.
The project, which began in December 2025, aims to optimize wastewater collection and treatment processes while strengthening operational efficiency and system sustainability. It consists of three main components.
The first component involves installing over 2,500 linear meters of 20-inch and 6-inch piping along Avenida Timón, with more than 2,400 meters already placed. This phase, scheduled for completion in May, will channel wastewater to the Villas Morelos IV treatment plant for reinjection into the aquifer at depths exceeding 100 meters—a sustainable process that closes the water cycle by responsibly returning treated water to the groundwater system.
The second component is the construction of a pumping station in the Zetina Gasca neighborhood, where significant progress has been made on civil, mechanical, and electrical work. This facility will serve as a key installation for comprehensive wastewater management.
The third component involves building a collector in the same neighborhood to capture and transport wastewater to the pumping station, ensuring proper flow within the system and contributing to operational continuity.
“This project strengthens Puerto Morelos’s hydraulic infrastructure and expands sewer capacity to accommodate growth. We are implementing it in stages and in coordination with authorities,” said Jorge Rosas Ortega, Aguakan’s Works Coordinator in Puerto Morelos.
