Abandoned Truck With Drugs And Ammo Seized in Rural Tulum

Abandoned Nissan truck containing drugs and ammunition seized by security forces in rural Tulum

Tulum, Quintana Roo — Security forces seized an abandoned pickup truck containing suspected drugs, loaded magazines, and live ammunition on a rural road near the community of Nuevo Durango, authorities said.

The operation took place on the Nuevo Durango-Cobá highway, where officers from the Quintana Roo Investigative Police, working alongside personnel from the Mexican Army and municipal police, found a Nissan truck parked haphazardly with its doors open next to a green area.

During inspection, officers observed several doses of green, dry plant matter resembling marijuana scattered throughout the vehicle. They also found a brown solid substance preliminarily identified as the drug known as “molly.” Forensic analysis will determine the exact nature of the substances.

In addition to the drugs, authorities discovered loaded magazines, live cartridges, and tactical clothing inside the truck, prompting the immediate seizure of the vehicle and all items.

The discovery triggered a security mobilization in the rural area of Tulum, where authorities have intensified patrols on highways and ejido lands in recent months due to reports of criminal activity.

The truck and all seized evidence were turned over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to be included in the corresponding investigation file.

No arrests have been reported in connection with the case. Investigations continue to determine the vehicle’s origin and whether it is linked to drug dealing or illegal weapons transport in the region.
