Dollar hits 17.33 pesos as Middle East war fuels safe-haven demand

US dollar and Mexican peso banknotes arranged on a table representing currency exchange

Mexico City — The U.S. dollar gained 0.69% against the Mexican peso on Saturday, with the interbank exchange rate reaching 17.33 pesos per dollar, according to Bloomberg data.

The peso weakened significantly during Friday’s trading session, ranking as the fourth worst-performing emerging-market currency against the dollar, according to an analysis by Monex.

The dollar strengthened as investors tempered expectations for a quick resolution to the Middle East conflict, reducing their exposure to riskier assets.
