12 Kilos of Cocaine Found Hidden in Wheelchair at Cancun Airport

Cancun, Quintana Roo — Authorities seized 12 kilograms of cocaine hidden in the backrest of a wheelchair at Cancun International Airport, leading to the arrest of a passenger arriving from Medellin, Colombia.

The Federal Security Cabinet announced the discovery, which was made during a physical inspection of passengers by National Guard and customs officers. The National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM) reported that 12.38 kilograms of suspected cocaine were found concealed in the wheelchair’s backrest, detected through an X-ray machine.

The passenger had an electric wheelchair as luggage, with several rectangular packages containing the drug hidden in the backrest. The suspect arrived on a flight from Medellin and was detained during the inspection process.

Army and National Guard personnel participated in the operation. The narcotics were seized, and the suspect was handed over to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office (FGR) to face charges for drug trafficking.

In a separate operation on the island of Cozumel, security forces reported two additional actions. In the Paraiso neighborhood, personnel from the Navy, Army, National Guard, and State Police arrested a person in possession of 2,999 doses of drugs and a vehicle. In a second operation, Navy officers inspected a cargo ferry and detained a person with 1,999 doses of methamphetamine and two cell phones.
