Young Man Killed in Front of Wife and Child in Cancun

Police tape cordoning off a dirt road in Cancun's El Milagro neighborhood after a fatal shooting

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A young man was shot and killed in front of his wife and young son Thursday morning in the El Milagro neighborhood, the latest in a string of violent incidents in the resort city.

Emergency services received a report around 9 a.m. that a man had been attacked. Two armed men on a motorcycle fired at close range at the victim, who was with his family. His wife and child were unharmed, authorities said.

Neighbors called police after the attackers fled. Municipal police from Benito Juarez arrived first and cordoned off the area. Paramedics later confirmed the man, in his early 20s, had no vital signs.

Investigators from the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office arrived at the scene to begin inquiries. Forensic experts from the Medical Examiner’s Service removed the body for autopsy.

No arrests have been made, and authorities have not released a motive or description of the suspects.

The killing comes two days after an attempted murder in Cancun’s Region 258, where gunmen on a motorcycle shot at a man outside a grocery store. In that incident, the victim escaped unharmed and no blood was found at the scene.
