Vózeres: Cancún Vocal Ensemble Preserves Traditional Music With A Cappella Concert and International Tour

Cancún, Quintana Roo — What started as a virtual project during the pandemic has grown into one of Quintana Roo’s most distinctive vocal ensembles. Six years after its founding, Vózeres is preparing a concert at the Teatro de la Ciudad in Cancún as a prelude to an international tour of Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. The group aims to revive traditional Mexican and Latin American songs and bring them to new generations.

Voice as Instrument

Made up of 16 female and male voices, the ensemble performs all its pieces a cappella, recreating percussion, strings and harmonies using only the human voice. Their repertoire includes sones huastecos, mariachi music, cumbias, salsa and bachata, transformed into innovative stage shows.

Origin and Diversity

Founded in 2020 as a virtual choir, Vózeres evolved into an in-person ensemble that brings together singers from Mexico, Argentina and Cuba. Members highlight the cultural richness they discover when performing songs that are more than a hundred years old.

Concert and International Tour

On July 30, the group will perform a fundraising concert in Cancún to support their South American tour in November. The program will include traditional and contemporary works adapted especially for vocal ensemble.

With a two-hour stage show, Vózeres aims to demonstrate that Cancún is not only a beach destination but also a hub for culture and artistic talent, keeping Mexico’s musical heritage alive and projecting it to the world.
